Recently a very unflattering picture of Beyonce performing at the Super Bowl has been circulating the internet. I have to admit, when I first saw it, my reaction was one of pleasure, “Wow! One of the most beautiful women in the world can look like that?” But, in the same moment, something within me felt so wrong. It honestly took me a couple of days to sort out these competing feelings. And now, I feel I must write.
The truth is we live in a culture that does NOT like seeing people succeed. We don’t want to see people prettier than us, younger than us, thinner than us, richer than us, smarter than us or happier for us. We do NOT like to CELEBRATE the success of others. Basically, we build people up to tear them down.
For women, this is particularly destructive. We are more likely to succumb to negative messages and lead a life less extraordinary than the one we are actually capable of for fear that we will be shredded by the wolves of jealousy.
Why in the WORLD would we want to show off our beauty, step into our power, share our talent, live out our gifts when we damn well KNOW we are putting ourselves on a STAGE to have our Soul Beauty devoured?
I mean, COME ON, isn’t what happened to Beyonce OUR WORST FEAR? Even Beyonce’s publicist has asked for the pictures to be removed in what seemed like a desperate measure to protect her.
What if 12 -year-old, brilliant Beyonce would have seen this coming? Would it have stopped her from sharing her AMAZING voice & talent?
WOULD IT HAVE STOPPED YOU?
Does it stop you NOW?
The TRUTH is Beyonce OWNED it at the Super Bowl. She was the epitome and definition of a POWERFUL WOMAN. And, that scares the HELL out of most people because she held up a mirror to all of us.
Women, it’s time for us to stop criticizing each other because of our own jealousy and insecurities. (Yes, that is EXACTLY what I did when I took pleasure in seeing that picture of Beyonce.)
Men, it’s time to start SUPPORTING your women so that they can feel comfortable OWNING their Soul Beauty.
Beyonce, and every other person I’ve taken pleasure in watching your pain, please accept my most sincere & heartfelt apology.

I have something to share with you all that is not easy for me, BUT, I HAVE to walk the talk. One VERY important key in health is knowing when to SURRENDER. Within the last few weeks there have been many things that have collided – a series of mini family crisis. It has become obvious to me that something has to give. When given the choice of business or family, there will never even be a choice – FAMILY ALWAYS comes FIRST.
With all of that said, I’m going to have to indefinitely postpone the Soul Beauty Sisterhood 30 Day journey. This was NOT an easy decision because I put my heart and soul into this program and I know many of you were really looking forward to it. I am so sorry. (I’m refunding the money to those of you who have already paid.)
I am still seeing health & business clients and will still be updating here. I just had to choose one thing to SURRENDER to be able to focus on the word I chose for 2013 – HOME.

Music is my frequency.
I was singing before I could talk. My house was filled with sounds of Motown, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, Led Zepplin, Michael Jackson & Prince.
I’ll never forget the first time I sang in front of a crowd. I was in 3rd grade. I stepped up to the piano in music class & open my mouth. Right away I heard everyone oooh, “Girl! You can SANG!” I suddenly felt as if I had sprouted wings!
When I was a little girl, I made musical instruments – kleenex box guitars, wax paper combs, oatmeal box bongos. Even though we were very poor, I managed to pray a piano into our home. I taught myself to play by ear. First song? Ode to Joy!
When I was 8 years old, I heard the song from the link above – John Lennon’s Woman. I fell hard for music in that very moment. I remember laying down on the merry-go round spinning while this song spun in my mind. Magical.
When I was 15, I found an incredible treasure – my grandpa’s guitar. Three top rusted strings & a quarter for a pick & I was good to GO!
I had a gift. This gift was a glorious part of my soul.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t long before society shut that gift down.
Instead of hearing, “Giiiirlll, you can SANG!” I heard, “Giiiirrl, you’re SO fat!” Guess which voice I believed? Guess which voice I internalized?
I SLAMMED close that frequency to my soul. Isn’t that such a violent act?
Why am I telling you all of this? Our TRUE beauty, the beauty no one can take away, comes from our SOULS!
I have a friend who often says, “If I’ve had this experience, I know I’m not the only one.”
I would place money on the fact that you have a frequency to your soul.
I would place money on the fact that if you don’t feel beautiful, there’s a good chance you’ve also slammed the door closed on that frequency.

I want you to do something for me, okay?
I want you to find a picture of yourself when you were the cutest, little girl EVER! A picture when you were FREE & knew what you loved! I want you to go to the store & buy a GORGEOUS frame, or better yet MAKE a frame. I want you to frame that picture & put it on your dresser, or on your mantel, or hang it on your wall. When you walk by it, I want you to think about all of the things you used to LOVE to do, but don’t any more.
Now, I want you to stop at that picture multiple times per day & tell yourself how freaking CUTE & AMAZINGLY TALENTED you are!

In order to give you an understanding of what the Soul Beauty Sisterhood 30 Day journey will look like, I’ve decided to release my 7-day program as part of a blog series. I can’t tell you how much response I got from this….women’s lives being changed, including my own! In these short seven days, we built an AMAZING community of love & support that I am truly honored to be a part of. So, here is day #1:

So we begin. I started this journey out of the longing of my own heart. I so desire you all to see the beauty that I see when I look at each & every one of you. This beauty is beyond compare. Let me explain that to you a bit.
When I was in college, I was PLAGUED with shame. I felt nothing but disgust about the way I looked. I would try on 15 outfits in the morning in order to become invisible & still have to force myself out of the door to greet the world. FORGET showing up in my gifts! I was too fat & ugly for anyone to care about ANYTHING I had to offer!!!
Oh, poor girl. If I could go back & give her the biggest, longest hug & tell her, “You ARE beautiful!!!!” But, what I can do is tell YOU that YOU are beautiful!!!!!! Beyond compare!!!!! Without measure!!!!
During this time, something else was brewing in my life, something amazing, something kinda about a little thing called GRACE! I had a goal to spend every waking moment with my Creator. One day, as I was ruthlessly, violently comparing myself to other women, I was struck like lightening by the Still, Small Voice. “How can you say you want what she has? You say you want her stomach? She could have cancer. Do you want that?” And, then, like a major shame intervention, for the next 3 days, every.single.time I compared myself to someone else, that Still Small Voice would gently nudge me, “You’re doing it again.”
And, here you are.

This journey is my gift to you! In the next seven days, it is my only goal to softly crack you wide open to expose the beauty of your soul – to hold a mirror up to your innermost being and let you see what YOU are truly made of. Grace is gentle – gentle like water flowing through the Grand Canyon, sometimes serene, sometimes forceful, carving out unmatched beauty, true beauty – Soul Beauty. YOUR soul is THAT kind of BEAUTY! Oh, how I anticipate showing you….YOU!!!!
